From: Pin-Up Girls of World War II Paper Dolls

Veronica Lake (Constance Frances Marie Ockleman, 1919-1973). After winning a beauty pageant in 1938 her mother took her to Hollywood to try to break into the movies. In 1941, her studio gave her a featured part in I Wanted Wings, her breakout role. Although she starred in several films, her studio did not appreciate her true acting abilities, and principally used her beauty to spice up mediocre films, so by the end of the decade her stardom was fading. During the war years she was one of the most popular pin-ups, and was known as: "The girl with the peek-a-boo bangs." Left: A two-piece playsuit in a bold plaid worn for a studio pin-up session. Right: A lounge robe in gold satin featuring bold frogging at the lapel and on the waist.
